Thanks mate. I’m really trying to learn to go hard on the darks. It really helps the image pop out. I didn’t even really draw the features I just focused on the darks – probably standard procedure but I’m new 🙂
Yes, I think you’re right about the contrasts; have black and white (very dark/very bright) somewhere. All grey look washed out and boring anyway. In this sketch, it seems to me that you’ve got dark dark and white in his eyes – which is right where my eyes first go when I look at this. Beyond the contrast, that you (repeatedly, in your sketches) capture the essence in expression is … a skill, a talent, some sort of small miracle ; )
